Common questions about CISA CPE.
Try LumiQ for freeISACA requires CISA holders worldwide, including in the UK, to complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education annually, and a minimum of 120 hours over a rolling three-year period. Note that ISACA refers to these as CPE (continuing professional education) hours in its official policy rather than CPD; hours can be split unevenly across the cycle (for example, 20/20/80) as long as you meet at least 20 per year and 120 total (Maintain CISA Certification).
Requirements may change, so CISA holders are responsible for confirming current requirements directly with ISACA.
ISACA operates one global reporting system: CPE is reported through myISACA (Certifications & CPE Management > Report and Manage CPE > Add New CPE Record). ISACA-tracked CPE is pre-loaded into your account but must be manually applied to your record. The annual reporting period runs January 1 through December 31, and both CPE reporting and your annual maintenance fee are due by December 31.
The annual maintenance fee is US$45 for ISACA members and US$85 for non-members, reduced to US$25/US$50 if you hold a third or subsequent concurrent ISACA certification. Invoices are sent by email and post starting in Q3 (September) for the following year.
ISACA randomly audits a sample of CISA holders each year and requires written evidence of completed CPE. Failing to meet the CPE requirement or failing an audit can result in revocation of the CISA designation, meaning the certificate must be destroyed and the individual may no longer claim CISA status. Reinstatement requires a written appeal, payment of outstanding fees plus a US$50 reinstatement fee, and in some cases retaking the exam.
No. On-demand courses have no annual limit, provided you retain a certificate of completion stating the hours earned. Non-ISACA Professional Education Activities (such as in-house training, university courses, and outside conferences relevant to CISA job practice areas) are also uncapped.
Yes. ISACA members can earn 1 free CPE hour per ISACA Journal quiz, for up to 6 CPE hours per year across the journal's 6 annual issues.
Yes. Starting January 1, 2027, the overall requirement of 120 hours per 3-year cycle remains the same, but at least 90 of those hours must be "certification-aligned" (tied directly to CISA exam domains), while up to 30 hours may be "professional-aligned" (leadership, soft skills, volunteering, mentoring). ISACA has confirmed there is no change to the policy during the 2025-2026 cycle.
ISACA's official policy refers to continuing education as CPE (not CPD) and applies this policy globally, including to UK-based CISA holders. LumiQ is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a CPE sponsor (Sponsor ID: 146039) and produces QAS self-study courses. ISACA's CPE Policy recognizes On-Demand (Self-Study) Courses and Non-ISACA Professional Education Activities as qualifying categories, provided the content is relevant to CISA job practice areas and you retain a certificate of completion documenting the hours earned.
LumiQ's cybersecurity, IT audit, and data analytics courses are designed to be relevant to the CISA job practice domains, and each completed course generates a certificate of completion. Acceptance is subject to ISACA's CISA CPE Policy, and CISA holders are responsible for confirming that a specific course meets their reporting requirements.
Podcasts can deliver superior learning outcomes compared to live webinars and recorded webcasts. Audio-only formats reduce cognitive overload and "Zoom fatigue," allowing your brain to retain information better. Additionally, unlike live or in-person options, you can pause and replay complex cybersecurity and IT audit concepts as needed for comprehension.
Podcasts also fit your schedule and your life better. Unlike live webinars with fixed start times, podcasts let you earn CPE during your commute, between engagements, or whenever works best.
In short, you get the same credit hours with better retention and zero scheduling conflicts.
Hours vary by course. Typically they range from 1 to 2 hours per podcast and 3 to 9 hours for our in-depth, multi-episode learning paths. Each course listing clearly displays the amount you'll earn upon completion. All credits are earned once you complete the podcast episode in full and pass the final assessment.
