How many CPD hours can I earn from an ethics podcast?

CPD hours vary by course. Typically they range from 1 to 2 hours per podcast and 3 to 9 hours for an in-depth, multi-episode learning path. Each course listing clearly displays the hours you'll earn on completion. All hours are earned once you complete the podcast episode in full and pass the final assessment.

Why is ethics CPD important?

Ethics is a core part of professional conduct for accountants. Staying current on professional ethics, ethical decision-making and professional scepticism protects public trust, safeguards your clients from ethical risks, and keeps you compliant with your professional body's requirements as standards and the business environment evolve.

For ICAEW members and other individuals regulated by ICAEW, ethics CPD is not optional. Under the ICAEW CPD Regulations effective 1 November 2023, every member and Relevant Person in scope must complete a minimum of one hour of verifiable ethics CPD each CPD year (1 November to 31 October). This can be met by completing ICAEW's free ethics module or by undertaking alternative ethics training that satisfies the same learning outcomes aligned with the ICAEW Code of Ethics.

Requirements vary by professional body:

‍ICAEW: Total annual CPD hours depend on your CPD category (from 20 hours with 10 verifiable up to 40 hours with 30 verifiable), plus a mandatory minimum of 1 verifiable hour of ethics CPD every year.

‍ACCA: The standard route is 40 units of CPD per year (1 unit = 1 hour), of which at least 21 units must be verifiable.

‍CIOT and ATT: Since 1 January 2023 there is no fixed minimum-hours requirement — members must undertake CPD that is appropriate to their duties and self-certify compliance annually. Ethics is expected as part of maintaining professional standards.
